Broccoli Sprouts are a great source of vitamins and minerals, they can be easily sprouted in jar or shallow soil. The sprouts are ready to add to salads, eat fresh or on sandwiches in 5-7 days.
Sprouting is also a great way of engaging kids with gardens and getting them to think about green foods as being tasty and fun. Be artistic with sprouts and think outside the box.
Adds a zing to salads.
Best results are achieved by sowing the seed in a 1cm deep soil tray and cover with 3-4mm of soil. When the plants have come up, the sprouts can be cut with scissors above the soil level. Alternatively the whole plant can be lifted, washed well and eaten. This method is recommended by the seed supplier with fewer variables that can go wrong and an almost non-existent chance of producing mouldy sprouts.
The soak and rinse method is also very popular but is subject to more variables which may lead to a lower germination rate and is more labour intensive.
