Ball screw bands (the ring part of the lid) can be reused many times provided they are free from rust and dents. Ball flat lids (the disc that creates the seal) are designed for single use in preserving — always use a new flat lid for each batch of preserving to ensure a safe vacuum seal. Flat lids can be reused for dry storage where no vacuum seal is required.

Yes. All Ball Mason Jars sold at OzFarmer include Ball's two-piece lid system: a flat lid (disc) and a screw band (ring). Replacement lids and bands are also available separately in our store.

After processing, leave your jars to cool undisturbed for 12–24 hours. A properly sealed jar will have a concave (inward-dipped) flat lid and will not flex or "pop" when pressed in the centre. You can also remove the screw band and gently lift the jar by the flat lid — a sealed jar will hold firm. Any unsealed jars should be refrigerated and used within a few days.

Yes. Ball Mason Jars and screw bands are dishwasher safe. It is recommended to wash jars in the dishwasher or hot soapy water before first use and before each new preserving batch. Flat lids can also be washed in the dishwasher, but should always be inspected for damage before use.
