Colostrum milk taken from a Cows first milking can be checked with a brix refractometer and milk with readings of 22+ should be collected and set aside as ?Gold? colostrum for feeding to newborn calves.��The quality of colostrum can vary greatly from cow to cow, and it may be that calves dam can not produce colostrum with a brix reading of 22+ so safe collection, storage and feeding ensures that each calf gets allocated the best quality available and an adequate supply.�Bucket can be easily cleaned with hot soapy water between uses.
