Hoof knives come in many different styles: these economy knives have a curved handle with a sharp hook at the end.
The most common purpose of the hoof knife is to shave the bottom of the horse’s foot and to remove absesses. For ease of use it is recommended that the knife be kept very sharp for this purpose.
The economy knife is a good back-up knife, but for regular use, we recommend one of the higher quality hoof knives we list.
The single edge version features a narrow single edge blade, favoured by dairymen as they are easily turned in the hoof to prevent digging bigger holes than required.
The knives are also available in a double edge version which tends to be preferred for equine use.
